On Dec. 14, Dr. Linda Davis, provost of the University of the Bahamas (UB) paid an official visit to Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) which is a Chinese partner university in jointly running the Confucius Institute with UB. On the morning of the day, Prof. Li Beiqun, president of NUIST met with Dr. Linda Davis. The leaders of NUIST Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, President’s Office, College of International Students and the World Meteorological Organization Regional Training Center were also present.
President Li extended a warm welcome to the Bahamian Guests, speaking highly of the important role that the Confucius Institute at UB jointly run by the two partner university in helping the local people learn Chinese language and culture. He also inquired about the recent of the Confucius Institute. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute at the University of the Bahamas is an important platform for the Bahamian people to understand China, to learn Chinese culture and to strengthen the friendship between the two countries. He expressed hope that NUIST will further extend and deepen the cooperation with UB by dispatching Chinese language teachers and stepping up the construction of CI courses and teaching materials. Provost Davis consented to President Li’s proposal and promised that she will go out to promote the cooperation and friendship.
On the afternoon, Provost Davis and Vice President of NUIST Liu Xuanfei jointly convened the 2017 Confucius Institute Council meeting. After that, Provost Davis visited the College of International Students and the World Meteorological Organization Regional Training Center in NUIST campus. She also had a talk with eight students from UB who are currently studying in NUIST.
