On the morning of Nov. 29, there was a lively and warm atmosphere with incessant applause and laughter in the classroom where students of the Adult Mandarin Course by the Confucius Institute at the University of the Bahamas had their last class in this semester. Prof. Fan Yong, Chinese Co-Director and Ms. Liu, Chinese lecturer of the CI at UB made arrangement for the students to participate in an elaborately-planed Chinese Culture Experience Event. At first, Ms. Liu summed up the Mandarin learning by the students, expressing appreciation for their effort and their achievement so far and encouraging them to work harder and make more progress in the next semester. Then, Ms. Liu gave an introduction to Chinese calligraphic art and the traditional Chinese four treasures of the study with real-objects and a short video. The students learned to write simple Chinese Characters with writing brushes under the direction of Prof. Fan and Ms. Liu and they were excited by such a novel writing experience which produced a satisfactory result. After this, the students were overjoyed to have a full taste of Chinese food including fried dumplings, spring rolls, Chinese-style chicken wings and Yangzhou-style fried rice, which brought the event to a climax. Finally, the students had a group photo with Prof. Fan and Ms. Liu before they bade farewell to each other.
